Our Story
Once there was a girl who loved to ride bikes, climb trees, read books, and watch birds. She grew up in Kansas, went to college, joined the Peace Corps, and got a Master’s in Public Health. Her career took her to many exciting countries. She worked alongside dedicated people doing extraordinary things, experiencing unique cultures and environments along the way—watching birds wherever she went.
When it was time to return home to Kansas, she discovered Eastern Bluebirds visiting the yard for the first time in more than 30 years. She started offering mealworms to help the new bird residents get through the winter, feed their young, and survive in a suburban environment.
The ‘girl’ is me. I started raising mealworms to feed wild birds and soon was hooked. Ready for a new adventure, I expanded the mealworm colony with the help of family and Frogmouth Farm was born.

Our Namesake
A frogmouth is a real bird! A whole group of birds, in fact, that live in Asia and Australia. They are nocturnal and can sit perfectly still for hours in the daytime, ingeniously camouflaged in the trees. With big eyes, a huge mouth, and hooked bill, they are often mistaken for owls. Funnily enough, though, they are more closely related to nightjars, swifts, and hummingbirds than to owls! Most are carnivorous, eating a lot of insects, small mammals, reptiles, and other prey.
